Description: Nymphaea x rosea or Nymphaea rubra  (Red Waterlily) is members of the the Waterlily family (Nympheaeceae). William Aiton's Hortus Kewensis, ed. 2, vol. 3, p. 294 recorded that Nymphaea rubra  (Red Waterlily) is a native of the East Indies was introduced to Britain in 1803.  Nymphaea rubra is a species of Nymphaea while Nymphaea x rosea is a complex artificial hybrid with Nymphaea rubra as one of its parents. The textile designer has not provided enough detail to determine which plant he or she was illustrating.
